Wreck This Journal #1 | Creativity with Bee

wreck this journal example uk lifestyle blog vivatramp

In my 2014 goals post, I talked about how I wanted to realise my creative potential this year.  Now, I'm a little bit of a perfectionist. I do things in a certain way, and I conduct myself accordingly. Whilst this can sometimes be a good thing, it can also be a bit of a creative hindrance. Therefore, I thought I'd completely go against everything I stand for creatively and embark on a chaotic creative project, also known as Wreck This JournalEveryone and their cat has this journal so you probably know what it's all about but, for those that don't, it's basically a book that gives you lots of creative prompts to help you break away from perfection / procrastination and just create. I'm by no means an artist. In fact, I'm very far from it. However, I thought it'd be fun to share my progress with you all in the hope that fellow perfectionists / rubbish artists would take heed and join in the fun! I have to say, I'm really enjoying this project. It's so much fun and so easy to fit around my schedule. If you've blogged your pages, leave your links below as I'd love to have a nose at them. I thought I'd start off with some of the easier tasks first to ease myself in nicely....Be gentle with me!

+ CRACK THE SPINE
If you love books as much as I do, you'll know just how difficult this was for me to do. After about twenty minutes of deliberation, I decided to be brave and just go for it. Whilst my heart broke slightly, it also made me feel quite liberated. Christ, I need to get out more! I'm going to add a little something to this page at some point, as it's ridiculously plain at the moment so watch this space.

+ THIS PAGE IS FOR YOUR HANDPRINTS OR FINGERPRINTS. GET THEM DIRTY THEN PRESS DOWN.
I had an old lipstick to chuck out so I thought I'd give it one last hurrah. I'm fully aware that these photographs make me seem really odd but I think that's what is fun about this journal, you get to do things you'd never normally do! I've since filled this page with a lots of colourful fingerprints but I'm sure I'll update you on that soon.

+ COLLECT THE STAMPS OFF ALL YOUR MAIL.
I took this little stamp off of a letter my Grandma sent me this morning, summoning me to visit her for a few days. I've since plucked up the courage to tape in the stamp my Broseph sent me from Australia, and I'm looking forward to adding to my collection. I think I'm going to give this page a splash of colour because it looks a little too much like a blank canvas at the moment. What should I do with it? I have a couple of ideas.

+ pour, spill, drip, SPIT, FLING YOUR COFFEE HERE.
I opted for a tea instead! This was so much fun. I decided to go for dripped polka dot splodges as I thought it'd work rather well! I think I may tape in the dried tea bag or something to make this page a little more interesting, or doodle some teapots and such across the page.

How do you think I did? Have you got a Wreck This Journal? I'd love to see your pages if you've blogged them so comment / tweet me your links! I'm going to be introducing paint to my journal next week so keep your eyes peeled for that. I'm off to chill out after a busy day and eat salmon fishcakes. YOLO! ♥

  1. Presented that way, I see the use of Wreck This Journal: a means to express your creativity and your feelings whilst having fun. You did pretty well actually. I like the idea of the lipstick — I like that shade of red too ;). The spine thing must have been so difficult. I can't break a spine, it feels sacrilegious. Stamps! I miss receiving and sending letters so much.
    I'm looking forward to step 2 :).

I'm not anywhere near done, but it's so much fun! and liberating :D Really getting those creative juices flowin'

I'd love to see more of your progress thus far, it's so neat how everyone has the same exact prompts but the outcomes are all so different.

  8. I think I need to pick up one of these. I'm currently half way through a Lit & Creative Writing course at Uni and it has, rather ironically, left me feeling quite creatively restricted and stagnant. I need to get back in to the swing of just making a big creative mess and then picking out the bits of brilliance in the chaos. Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours :)

  11. I like your photos and I really love the concept of this book - I like seeing what you've done, but unfortunately for me I just found it kinda dull? Loved the concept, didn't so much love the pages they give you.

  20. I've had one of these for a few years now and haven't finished it yet. I'm going to finish it this year and do a big post about it. It probably contains bits of pieces of a really old me by now. It'll be really fun getting it done. I chucked it in my bath recently. That was brilliant fun.
